Specialty Vehicle Engineering, which has been building special-edition GM vehicles for over 25 years, recently announced that they will be bringing back the classic Yenko/SC name attached to two super-limited edition 2019 ‘Vettes: the 835-horsepower Stage 1 Yenko/SC Corvette and the awesome 1,000 horsepower Stage 2 Yenko/SC Corvette. Available in both coupe and convertible models, they will only produce 25 examples of each, which will be available for order through Chevrolet dealers, with full factory warranty. A legendary nameplate for muscle car fans, the original Yenko/SC Corvettes, Camaros, Novas, Chevelles and Corvairs were specially outfitted with high-output engines and flashy exterior modifications by Yenko Chevrolet in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania in the late 1960s and early 70s. Rare as lizard fur even when new, Yenko/SC cars are even more rare today, with restored and unrestored examples selling for well over $100,000 at auction.

Specialty Vehicle Engineering, based in Toms River, New Jersey, will create the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Yenko/SC 2019 Corvettes by heavily modifying 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport editions. Those modifications start with extensive remodeling of the Grand Sport’s 6.2-liter LT1 engine, including boring and stroking the all-aluminum engine for a final displacement of 6.8-liters. The Stage 1 Yenko/SC Corvette will deliver 835 hp and 770 lb.-ft. of torque, with a blueprinted, computer-balanced rotating assembly featuring a forged steel crank, H-beam rods, forged aluminum pistons, CNC-ported cylinder heads, upgraded fuel delivery and injection systems and a custom supercharger. Exterior modifications on both Stage 1 and 2 Yenko/SC ‘Vettes will include the wider rear fenders from the 2019 Z06, “SYC” graphics on the hood and “Yenko” stripes that run the length of the car. Stage 1 will also include custom-milled “835 HP” badges on the hood near the base of the windshield and a custom engine cover.

In the Stage 2 Yenko/SC Corvette, things get even wilder, with the same internal components and modifications as the Stage 1 engine, plus CNC-ported high-flow LT4 cylinder heads, bombproof ARP high-strength head bolts and main bearing studs, a dry sump oiling system and a 20 percent larger supercharger with 25 percent more boost, turned by a high-strength 10-rib belt drive. The throttle body will also be 10 percent larger, as will the high-flow exhaust. The gloss-red engine gleams like a jewel, while “SYC” stripes and custom “1000 HP” badges on the hood show passerby that this ‘Vette means business.

Backing up both mills will be a specially-prepared heavy-duty automatic transmission or 7-speed manual. Helping put the power where it belongs is GM’s superb Magnetic Ride Control, a limited slip rear differential, heavier stabilizer bars, Brembo brakes with 14.6-inch two-piece rotors and more. Inside, the cars will get special Yenko/SC embroidered logos on the headrests, floor mats and seats, plus special badging on the dash, steering wheel and doors, plus numbered aluminum door sills.
