Ram plans to sell '19 "Ram Classic” trucks alongside the all-new 2019 Ram | Steve Landers Auto Group

Perhaps taking a page from their FCA stablemate Jeep, which fielded the 2018 Wrangler in both the outgoing JK and all-new JL body-styles simultaneously this model year, Ram announced recently that they’re giving buyers the opportunity for a blast from the Ram past by producing an selling both the totally-redesigned 2019 Ram 1500 (known internally as the 2019 Ram 1500 DT) as well as the 2019 “Ram Classic,” which continues the body styling of the 2018 Ram 1500 model. Both will be sold simultaneously, side-by-side on dealer lots. Current plans are to put the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic on sale this fall.

According to a press release from Ram parent company FCA, the 2019 Ram Classic will be offered in four trim levels: Tradesman, Express, Big Horn/Lone Star, and a “Special Services Vehicle” trim level with minimal options and luxuries, making it perfect for fleet duty. Each model will bear a new “Classic” badge. FCA’s Mike Manley, head of the Ram brand, said that the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic will be “targeted at entry and commercial buyers,” possibly suggesting a lower price tag than even fleet-targeted Tradesman models of the all-new 2019 Ram.

FCA said the 2019 Ram Classic will receive three new option packages:

CHROME PLUS: Offered on the Tradesman model, the package features chrome bumpers, body -color upper front fascia, 17 inch steel wheels, and a carpeted interior.

TRADESMAN SXT: Also offered on the Tradesman, the package includes chrome bumpers, painted front fascia, 5-inch touchscreen in the dash, fog lamps, dual exhaust on V8-equipped trucks, and 20-inch chrome wheels.

EXPRESS BLACK ACCENT: Offered on Express trim Ram Classics, the package includes black wheels, black headlight surrounds and black badging.

The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic will be available with three different bed lengths -- 8-foot, 6-foot-4-inch, and 5-foot-7-inch, depending on cab configuration -- and will be available with either 4x2 and 4x4 running gear. Engine options will include the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, and, coming soon, the optional 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel.

Like the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 DT, the 2019 Ram Classic will feature Ram’s five-year-60,000 mile powertrain warranty.
