With literally thousands of new Chrysler, Dodge Jeep and Ram vehicles spread over two big CDJR dealerships in the Steve Landers Auto Group, it’s understandable that we’ve got more than a few big-time Mopar fans in our ranks. Also a lot of Dodge/Ram truck fans. Put them together, and it’s understandable that one of our favorite examples of classic Dodge muscle has long been the 1970’s Dodge Warlock special edition pickup truck.

Introduced in 1976 and produced until 1979, the original Dodge Warlock trucks were a blacked-out spinoff of the popular Dodge Lil’ Red Express trucks. Built for buyers who wanted tough looks and muscle-truck performance, the Dodge Warlock pickups were kitted out with features like chrome big-rig exhaust stacks, stepside beds, bucket seats, floor mounted shifters, chrome plated running boards, special gold lettering and pinstriping, and a hot “police interceptor” 360 V8 under the hood. Coveted by collectors today, the Warlock was one of the most beautiful trucks Dodge ever produced.

For anyone who feels bad about missing out buying a new Dodge Warlock truck back in the 1970s, do we have some big news! Earlier this month, Ram revealed that they’ll be bringing back the Warlock nameplate with a new limited-edition truck: the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock! Featuring custom touches inside and out, it’s the latest limited edition from Ram.

"The Ram 1500 Classic Warlock is proof positive that value never goes out of style," said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand, FCA. "With its sinister monochromatic exterior, award-winning interior and great price, this mean machine is certain to resonate positively with consumers."

Unlike the all-new, totally redesigned 2019 Ram 1500, the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic is a continuation of the previous, time-tested bodystyle and engineering, with a more affordable price point.

Special features of the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock Edition including a blacked out grille with RAM in bold, unmistakable lettering, plus 20-inch black painted alloy wheels and powder-coated front and rear bumpers. The suspension gets a factory one-inch lift to clear those big rollers, plus black fender flares, projector headlights with black bezels, LED tail lights, black badges, Warlock hood decals, and an optional Sport hood. Warlock decals on the bed also announce this is no ordinary Ram Classic. Unlike the original Warlock trucks, which you could have in any color, as long as it was black, the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock will be available in ten colors, including Bright Silver Metallic, Flame Red, Maximum Steel, Pearl White, True Blue and -- for the Warlock purists -- Diamond Black. You’ll have to find someone to apply those Superfly 70’s gold pinstripes if you want that.

Inside, the Warlock package includes Diesel Gray cloth seating, and the Luxury Group which includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, overhead console, LED bed lighting and power fold exterior mirrors. Optional equipment includes heated bench or bucket seating, an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen with turn-by-turn navigation, a spray in bedliner and more.

When it comes to powertrain options, the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock can be ordered with any engine and running gear option available, including the 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower, or the legendary 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 195 hp and 410 lb.-ft. of torque, with 4x2 or 4x4 configurations available, plus quad or crew cabs.

The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock Edition will be available at Landers CDJR dealerships starting in the first quarter of 2019, with a starting price of $35,345.
