Now that summertime in Arkansas is here, it’s time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine! Arkansas is home to 52 beautiful state parks, so it’s no wonder we’re called the Natural State! This summer, your outdoor adventures may look a little different, but it’s still possible to enjoy the beauty of Arkansas while practicing safe social distancing. Here are some of our favorite State Parks in Arkansas and how you can visit them responsibly this summer!

Devil's Den State Park | West Fork, Arkansas

Devil’s Den State Park in Northwest Arkansas is one of Arkansas’s greatest treasures! The gorgeous wood and stone cabins were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1930 out of native materials. The park is known for its unique rock formations, caverns and an impressive rock dam across Lee Creek that created Lake Devil. Lake Devil is perfect for fishing and boating, and canoes and pedal boats are available for rent. Currently the Fossil Flats Mountain Bike Trail and Yellow Rock Trail are closed, but there are nine other trails open for hiking.

Petit Jean State Park | Morrilton, Arkansas

Petit Jean State Park was Arkansas’s first state park and it is loaded with history, geology and beautiful views! The park has 125 campsites, and nearby Lake Bailey offers 100 acres of water for fishing, kayaking and pedal boating. Day use areas like trails for hiking and mountain biking and non-fee swimming beaches are open for use, and there are plenty of places to explore while social distancing. If you get hungry after your hike, you can refuel in the restaurant in the Petit Jean State Park Lodge! Just don’t forget your mask. All patrons are required to wear masks and observe social distancing guidelines in the restaurant and common areas of the lodge.
